Architecture Summer Talks 2019 | 23. Mai – XU TIANTIAN, Beijing „The Songyang Story“

Architecture serves as an effective acupunctural strategy in Songyang County’s Rural Revitalizing Program. Its primary goal is to serve the village and villagers to restore their rural heritage as well as to stimulate tourism and rural economic development. By using vernacular material and construc- tion technique, multi-functional public programs tailored to the complexity of the regional history and traditional craft are introduced to different villages under the guideline of the minimal interven- tion approach. Similar to actual acupuncture at the meridians to increase the blood flow in one’s body, these programs increase communication and collaboration between villages and the county’s urban center.

Sie erhielt ihren Master of Architecture in Urban Design an der Harvard Graduate School of Design und ihren Bachelor in Architektur an der Tsinghua University. Sie ist die derzeit einflussreichste junge Architektin in China und erhielt unter anderem den WA China Architecture Award, den Young Architects Award der Architectural League New York und zuletzt den Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture. Ihre Arbeiten in Songyang County wurden letztes Jahr auf der Architekturbiennale von Venedig in der Hauptausstellung gezeigt.)
